THE MATERIALS
Heavy duty fireclay is a blend unique to Shaws, perfected over 120 years. Shaws fireclay includes the world’s finest Devon Ball Clay, which is still mixed and poured by hand. It is up to 25% more dense than clay used by other manufacturers and takes more skill to work with. The fireclay is handcrafted into thick solid walls making each sink much heavier and more durable than thinner or hollow-wall sinks.
The quality of the glaze and its application affects the durability of a sink. Shaws unique heavyweight glaze is blended to exacting standards of strength and gloss, and is applied by a skilled specialist to ensure an even coating. Two layers are applied to every Shaws sink to produce a smoother and hard-wearing glaze which is typically 2-4 times thicker than sinks made by other manufacturers. A Shaws sink is fired at 1200 °C for 32 hours to enable the heavy duty fireclay and glaze to fuse into one inseparable and enduring body
THE PROCESS
WEEK 1 - Skilled Master Mould Makers use a unique plaster mix to make each sink model and mould by hand. At the same time, heavy duty fireclay is precision blended and slowly mixed before being rested prior to use.
WEEK 2 - Liquid fireclay is poured by hand into the mould before being rested. The mould is then removed and the sink hand-finished by a Master Craftsman with over 10 years’ experience. The maker then stamps their name, and the sink is dried at 110 °C (230 °F) for two days.
WEEK 3 - The sink is glazed by hand and then rested before a second glaze is carried out. Once the finish is dry the sink is inspected. Only if the inspection team are happy is the Shaws brand applied.
WEEK 4 - The sink is prepared and fired at 1200 °C (2200 °F) for 32 hours to fuse the heavy duty fireclay and glaze. It then cools for one day, is carefully inspected – twice – and finally packed, ready for delivery to your door.
After three to four weeks of mixing, moulding, hand-finishing, drying, glazing and firing - methods unchanged for 120 years - the sink is inspected twice. Cleaning & Maintenance – Ceramic Sinks
A kitchen sink is a heavy duty utensil and over time, may show traces of wear over time, regular cleaning to remove dirt is the best form of maintenance for your kitchen sink and extend its life an beauty.
To maintain the beauty of your kitchen sink in its original condition and to keep your sink looking its best, we recommend you clean your kitchen sink with regular washing up liquid after using your sink and wipe down with dry cloth. Avoid leaving heavy stainable waste such as tea bags in your sink which will be more stubborn to clean. We also recommend you deep clean your sink once a week (in non-hard water area, twice or three times per week for hard water areas) using some of our recommended cleaning products.
Cramer Email-Star, Blanco Cera Care, Blanco PuraPlus, Blanco Antikalk are all designed to be used with ceramic and it is specially formulated for daily cleaning of all ceramic sinks. This product is a combined cleaner and will help maintain the original lustre of your sink. Regular cleaning helps prevent build-up of lime and other substances.

Extra large items delivered with our standard service are generally delivered by a 2 man fragile courier. A signature will be required on acceptance of delivery. Due to the fragile nature of some products, the supplied box may be delivered open due to the strict inspection for damage is carried out throughout its journey. Fragile items over 20kg, but less than 60kg and 1.4m long

Next day delivery is available for items we stock in our warehouse. All items that qualify for next day delivery are clearly advertised as being available for next day delivery on our product description page.
Next day delivery is available to delivery addresses within zone 1 and 2 areas only, and is not available in any other zones.
To qualify for next day delivery in the available delivery zones, orders must be placed before 2pm Monday to Thursday. Orders placed on a Friday before 2pm will be delivered on the following Monday. Orders placed after 2pm on a Friday through to Monday before 2pm, will be delivered on the following Tuesday.
At the time of checkout, all products in your shopping basket must be eligible for next day delivery; this is clearly advertised within our checkout page. You must also select the shipping method as "Next Day Delivery" rather than our "Standard Delivery", a surcharge will apply for this service.
